Overview

MachineGames is seeking a Game Designer to join a small, multi-disciplinary team and help plan, prototype and build fun combat experiences.

You will be responsible for ensuring that combat remains challenging and balanced throughout the player’s in-game progression and the progression of their own skill level. This includes iterating on the game design of enemies and weapons, and directly implementing balancing changes. As a Game Designer, you will also work closely with other designers and members of the team to shape the project as a whole, and ensure it reaches its full potential.

Our studio is located in central Uppsala, Sweden, which is a small and vibrant university city 40 minutes north of Stockholm.

We greatly value diversity and encourage future colleagues from all backgrounds and identities to apply.

MachineGames offers a hybrid workplace with benefits including private health insurance, an allowance to use on a gym membership or other health activities, wellness days to recuperate your physical or mental health, and more.

This is a permanent position starting as soon as possible. We will support your relocation and/or application for work permit if you have a non-EU passport and/or are not currently residing in Sweden.

  • Balance enemies and weapons to optimize fun and progression
  • Implement your balancing changes directly in the game
  • Take feedback and iterate on your work
  • Create memorable and challenging enemies that work together systemically
  • Collaborate with other designers on achieving the full vision of the game

Qualifications

  • Game design experience within the game industry or equivalent for at least 2 years
  • Strong communication skills in English - written and verbal
  • Ability to experiment and prototype ideas
  • Experience with directly implementing game design in a game engine or backend
  • Experience in balancing combat or other complex game systems
  • Experience designing progression and difficulty curves and manipulating large datasets to implement them
