Overview

id Software, part of the ZeniMax Media Inc. family of companies, is seeking a Technical Writer to join our team.  This is a full-time, in-house position at our Richardson, TX studio (near Dallas).  The Technical Writer will facilitate a culture of technical writing standards, education, and best practices in the studio. 

Responsibilities

  • Work with development and support teams to author helpful documentation for the studio 
  • Review, collaborate, improve, and provide feedback on submitted documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and standardization 
  • Plan, develop, prioritize, and execute developer-focused, data-informed content plans and sprint plans 
  • Create tutorial content such as videos, infographics, and workshop modules to educate fellow studio members of cross-disciple tools and content 
  • Identify documentation needs proactively. 
  • Identify and resolve issues relating to documentation structure, documentation design, and deliverables. 

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience writing for a technical audience, or equivalent work experience 
  • Strong written and verbal English skills 
  • Strong research skills 
  • Ability to organize and discern useful information from conversations, notes, and other documentation 
  • Ability to work independently 
  • Comfort with teaching/training on one-on-one 
  • Comfort with pressing for information (strong interpersonal skills, tenacity, willingness to prepare with research, ability to craft leading questions for SMEs, etc.) 
  • Comfort with working on multiple projects at a time – and the ability to prioritize work 
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Atlassian Confluence, or similar Wiki software. 

Preferred Skills

  • Degree in English, Technical Communications, Computer Science, or similar field 
  • Experience with video editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro or similar. 
  • Ability to influence without authority and balance thought leadership with execution. 
  • Ability to make effective decisions based on business needs and constraints; demonstrate a pragmatic approach to solving complex problems with a bias for action. 

Salary Range

Technical Writer - The typical base pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $60,000 - $140,000 per year.

           

ZeniMax has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets. The range above reflects the potential base pay across the U.S. for this role; the applicable base pay range will depend on what ultimately is determined to be the candidate’s primary work location. Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Base pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.
